Project Management and Self-Care: Prioritizing Wellness as a Project Manager

As a project manager, I know what it's like to be under a lot of pressure. We have to multi-task, by managing project teams, stakeholders, ensuring projects are under budget and on schedules. This can lead to stress, burnout, and other health problems.

As a health conscious person, I know that it's important to prioritize my wellness. This means taking care of my physical, mental, and emotional health. When I'm taking care of myself, I'm better able to focus, make decisions, and be productive at work. Research studies have shown there are many benefits to gain from mental and physical wellness. Employees who are physically healthy are more likely to be productive, have fewer sick days, and be more engaged in their work.

Here are five of my favorite health and wellness activities I do to prioritize my wellness:

  • Meditation- I wake up at 4am and meditate for 60 minutes. Meditation helps me to calm my mind and focus on the present moment. It also helps me to reduce stress and improve my mood.

  • Fitness-I work out regularly. I lift weights 3-4 times a week and do cardio 2 times a week. My exercise regimen helps me to build and tone my muscles, which are my fitness goals.

  • Journalling-I journal every day. Journaling helps me to process my thoughts and feelings. It also helps me to set goals and track my progress.

  • Reading- I read for pleasure. Reading helps me to relax and escape from the stresses of everyday life. It also helps me to learn new things and expand my horizons.

  • Nature-I spend time in nature. Being in nature helps me to feel calm and peaceful. I enjoy hiking, visiting the beach, rivers or waterfalls or walks in the park. Nature helps me to connect with my inner self.

I know that everyone's wellness journey is different. But I believe that everyone can benefit from making wellness a priority. If you're a project manager, I encourage you to find what works for you and make it a part of your daily routine. In 2024, make your health and well-being a priority!

How will you take care of your health and wellness in 2024?
